Marathon to Sanderson TX – April 8

Camping at an RV Park across from railways tracks can make for a long night.  It seemed like every 2 hours a freight train went by during the night. Because the RV Park was near a crossing, we were treated to a long blast of the train whistle every time one went by.

Marathon RV Park this morning

Today was the first day that we cycled in cloudy to overcast conditions and it was a treat not to be baked by the sun for a change.

Lots of yellow and purple wildflowers were seen today

The 55 mile ride was relativeley easy as there is a 1000 foot drop in elevation from Marathon to Sanderson.  I cycled with 3 other guys for most of the morning and arrived in Sanderson around 12:30. We averaged just over 16 mph while riding. It my turn to cook dinner with one of the other riders so we wanted to arrive early and make few stops along the way.

Tomorrow the ride to Seminole Canyon State Park will be 87 miles.
