Live Oak Springs to Brawley – March 18

Today’s ride was 61 miles.   The elevation at the start of the day at Live Oak Springs was 3473 feet and the elevation at the end of the day was -161 feet below sea level.  There is a rough section of pavement from Ocitillo to past Plaster City on S80 that has many large cracks and bumps and makes for a rough ride. Cyclists should be careful not to wreck a rim or tire along there.

As we passed through Jacumba Springs we could see a high fence that ran for miles along the border with Mexico.  After Jacumba Springs we had a screaming descent of over  3400 feet over the next 10 miles in to the Yuha Desert.  We stopped in the village of Ocotillo for a second breakfast around 10 am.

Once we entered the desert the temperature increased and it was a hot ride all the way to Brawley. We made a short stop in Seeley to get some water and continued on.   On the way in to Brawley we passed a silo with a sea level marking on it.

We camped in the yard at the a Cattle Call Arena in Brawley.
