I wanted to get another short warm-up day in before the tour starts tomorrow. I went for a 12 mile ride southeast of Fort Davis and then turned around and headed back. It was mostly a long, gentle uphill grade cycling against the wind on the way out. On the way back it was all downhill with the wind at my back.
I’ve got 32mm tires on my bike and with all of this pebbly chip seal I probably should have put my 36mm tires on for a slightly smoother ride.
Today was slightly overcast, windy and in the low 20’s c.
Tonight’s “camp room” at Stone Village
I have traveled to Texas to take part in a 9-day van-supported trip that explores the “wild and picturesque terrain of the West Texas Big Bend region”. The route will take me through Big Bend National Park, the Chihuahuan Desert, the Davis and Chisos mountain ranges, and along the Rio Grande River. This will be my third tour with Adventure Cycling. The forecast for the first part of the tour is calling for some cool and wet weather. I’m glad I have a warm sleeping bag, a good tent and good rain gear.
