I maintain several trails on our property. There is often work to be done to keep them clear and in good condition for cycling, walking, running and snow shoeing. Every year there are branches to be trimmed and small saplings to be cut. After a major storm there are often branches to pick up and sometimes trees that have fallen across the trail that need to be bucked up and moved aside. I’m not complaining about the work. I enjoy it. Fallen trees can be cut up for firewood. Branches and brush can be burned in large bonfires (when safe to do so). Trail maintenance provides good exercise and good opportunities to see and hear birds and small animals.
Over the years I have seen tracks on my trails that have been left by deer, moose and other animals. This year I deployed trail cameras in various locations around our property and got several pictures of wildlife. It is great to share the trail.
