Pincher Creek to Cardston, Alberta

I left Pincher Creek just before 8 am on Monday morning. It was sunny and close to 20 celsius when I got on the road. For the first 25 km or so there many long gradual uphill climbs followed by long gentle descents. I was heading southeast and as it got later in the morning a southwest wind picked up and slowed me down. After 50 km I turned off Highway 6 and headed east on Highway 5. I gradually left the foothills behind me and as the terrain became more level I has a southwest wind behind me as I headed east. I was finally able to use the large front chain ring on my bike and easily cruised along for the next 25-30 km at more than 30 km/hr on my loaded touring bike. I ended up riding 95 km for the day. Tomorrow the weather forecast calls for thunderstorms and winds from the southwest at 60 km/hr. I’ve decided to take a rest day and look around town tomorrow and start riding South in to Montana on Wednesday.
