Columbia Icefield to Lake Louise

It was mostly sunny and 10c when I left the Columbia Icefield for Lake Louise. After the Sunwapta Pass, elevation 6,676 and Parker Ridge there was several kilometers of descending. With my heavily loaded touring bicycle I had to keep the breaks on lightly most of the way down. I’m glad I brought some extra break pads. I may have to change the ones on the bike later in the trip. I arrived at Saskatchewan Crossing, elevation 4,600 feet, at 10:40 after riding 50 kilometers and had an early lunch, a bowl of chili. I continued riding knowing that there was more ascending to do ahead. After about 20 kilometers I started riding uphill and was managing well. After another 12 or so kilometers the pitch increased and I eventually walked the bike and gear up the last 2 kilometers to Bow Pass, elevation 6,785 feet. After that it was mostly downhill riding until I arrived in the rain in Lake Louise. I was wet and cold so I grabbed a hotel room for the night. The weather should be pretty good for the next several day so I’ll be camping I hope in Kootenay National Park. Distance traveled today was 132 kilometers.
