Fort Steele to Fernie, British Columbia

I left Fort Steele on Saturday morning just before 7:30 in the morning. It was sunny and warm the riding was good. After about 40km I stopped in Jaffray for a mid morning snack and had an excellent breakfast burrito at a busy coffee shop. Throughout the morning it got warmer and by noon it was hot and sunny. I was beginning to feel the heat and after climbing a steep hill to the small town of Elko, I stopped at a gas station for some ice cream. The climb was worth it because after Elko I was able to descend for more than 10 km on the run in to Fernie. I arrived in Fernie around 1:30 and decided to stop for the night after riding 97 km. Because of all of the gear shifting I had to do in Jasper and Banff national parks as I climbed and descended hills, the rear dérailleur cable had stretched and my gears weren’t shifting smoothly. I stopped by the a bike shop in Fernie, the Gear Hub, where they took a quick look at it and fixed things up in about a minute for free.
