Poplarville to Vancleave MS – April 30

I woke up to a clear day but cool morning. The weather forecast was calling for a high in the upper 80’s and westerly winds. A good forecast for our 70+ mile ride.

This morning at the RV park in Poplarville

I left Poplarville at 7:30am with two other cyclists. Traffic was very light all day as we follwed secondary roads with miles and miles of gently rolling hills.  At one point in the day we cycled for over an hour before seeing a car.

We passed through large areas of managed pine forests. In some stands, trees were marked for thinning. I rode by a few areas that looked like prescribed burns had taken place in recent years and one burn looked like it had been carried out earlier this spring.

A few miles of new pavement near the end of the day was nice to see

We reached Vancleave by 12:30 and stopped at a Mexican restaurant for lunch. After lunch we cycled half a mile to the White Sands RV Park, arriving before our van and camping gear. A great chance to relax in the shade at a picnic table. Today’s ride was 70.9 miles.  Tomorrow we will enter Alabama.
