Invermere to Fort Steele

On Thursday, June 28 I rode from McLeod Meadows campground to Invermere. I got a room at the Best Western and did some laundry, walked around the downtown area and did some relaxing later in the afternoon. On Friday morning I took advantage of the free hot breakfast and ate as much as I could and grabbed a little extra food for snacks and got on the road just after 8am. Instead of getting on the highway at first, I used an alternate road for the first 30km. It was great riding with hardly any traffic at that time in the morning. I got back on Highway 93/95 for 6km and then took another alternate road as I turned on to Columbia Ridge Rd. for 14km. That road followed the south shore of the beautiful Columbia Lake. For the remainder of the day I was back on the highway but unfortunately battling a strong southerly headwind for the remaining 72km. On the bright side, it was bright. The sun was shining and the temperature was in the mid 20’s. Highway 93/95 has smooth, wide, paved shoulders so the riding is pretty good. In Fort Steele I set up camp at the Fort Steele Resort and RV Park.

I’ve been using maps that I purchased from the Adventure Cycling Association. The maps are excellent. They show the best routes and also list service stops, campgrounds and hotels along the route. On the back of the maps they have a paragraph or two that describe the riding conditions.
