Pine Valley to Jacumba Hot Springs

Today’s ride was only 30 miles so I wasn’t in a big rush to get going. When I saw that the temperature was only 5c at 7am I decided to wait a few hours until it warmed up a little. It warmed up to 11c when I left Pine Valley at 9:30am.

It was a bit of a grind today as there was a fair bit of climbing and a steady, brisk headwind. There was also several sections of rough and cracked pavement on the shoulders that I had to keep an eye on.

The wind was the strongest during the long climb near the La Posta Indian Reserve. I had to walk the bike for a few minutes on a steep section near the top of the climb to rest my legs a little. The last 6 miles or so was mostly downhill so life was good.

I arrived in Jacumba Hot Springs at 1:15 and checked in to the hotel. They offer a special cyclist rate. This town is right on the border. The border wall is easily seen from town.

Tomorrow I head to Brawley with a forecast high of 28c. Finally some warmth.
